Where to start where to start?! Maybe the beginning?
I was sick on Thursday and Friday. Really bad time to be sick as it was, as I had to miss out on Gnome's Hen's night, which sucked big time!
So on Sunday I got up early, as I had to pick up my guestlist ticket from hotel Dimmu Borgir were staying at. I was so nervous to just rock up there and say "Hi, my name is Jules, tour manager left tickets for me at front desk?" So when I got to the hotel and walked in on the collected crew of Sevendust sitting there, I had the wind knocked out of my sails and was too damn fuckiung nervoius to walk up and say "Hi, you guys rule, haven't seen you live in 13 years, have a great show later!" Fucking stupid! And yes: their singer really IS tiny!
Being told that Dimmu Borgir hadn't checked in yet delayed my journey to the festival a lot, but being as cool as I am, I stood outside the hotel, on my phone, smoking and waiting for the band to arrive from the airport. And they did! In a shiny white mini bus thing, all in black, haha! Stian was as adorable as ever, but I did manage to contain myself and played it cool, TOTALLY looking the other direction when I caught him and Galder(?) look at me, most likely expecting me to be a fan girl. Ha! But I just stayed on my phone call and smoke and ignored them two stayed next to me, smoking, talking in Norsk *drool* until I was done with call and smoke and simply walked past them into the lobby to locate their tour manager.
One ticket richer, I was finally on my way to the festival, got there in one piece and had issues getting my big camera in, as I had 2 lenses with me...grrr! Ah well, still had my small camera with me. Left the big camera at cloakroom. Met some friends and we headed to Sum41 and then to DevilDriver- who killed by the way- and then caught some of Murderdolls and All That Remains. It had gotten hot and sunny again, but I manned up and waitied in front of stage 4 for Dimmu Borgir, 3rd row, with my small camera. I did take some AMAZING shots, and I am delighted to say that these boys made a great Australian debut! It was certainly worth the wait!
Having seen a good few people with their digital SLRs in the crowd, I took my chances and went back to the cloakroom, getting out my camera and left the zoom lens with them- which I regretted later on as I should have taken that one instead of the regular one- and headed back to catch Slayer...who decided to pull out 20 minutes after they were supposed to be on stage...Tom apparently had fallen sick and was in hospital. Did the organizers REALLY think it was a good idea to wait this long to tell a HUGE mass of fans that they wouldn't play? They should have announced it hours before that he wasn't well and odds were that they wouldn't play. Ah well...guess the 20 minutes of people throwing bottles and cups at the stage was completely expect able.
Parting ways with my friends- and noticing my phone was dead- I took my time and made my way over to stage 6 to catch BMTH. The whole bowl was FILLED with mainly 14-19 years olds, rocking out to whoever was playing before them.
BMTH? Best gig I have ever seen 'em play! And I don't say that as a huge fan- as I am not- but the amount of people coming out of those massive circle pits with bloody noses and busted brows? WOW! Weather you love these English, tattooed, skinny fuckers or hate 'em: they have so far never disappointed me on stage, and always topped it off!
Having to get back to the Western suburbs and not really giving a shit about Iron Maiden, I left.
Now I am trying to edit all the pics I took...or at least some of the 1,006 I took! Amazing! Have some sweet shots! Who needs the press pit! Shame though I didn't have the zoom lens on me for BMTH, as I had to stand on the side steps...but hey: better some pictures then non?
